Dear Sir,

COPY.

FAR EASTERN WAR DAMAGE CLAIMS COMMISSION.

c/o.

END

8th July, 1948.

War Damage in Hong Kong.

Your letter of 18th June addressed to the Crown Agents, has been passed to this Department for attention.

Regarding your claim in respect of property lost or damaged in Hong Kong as a result of the War, I am to refer to the statement issued by the Government of Hong Kong, a copy of which is enclosed. As explained in the statement, the Hong Kong Government have recommended that no compensation should be paid for war damage In these circumstances it is regretted that no payment can be made from Hong Kong Government Funds in respect of general war damage compensation claims. The statement is of course not concerned with any claims where a legal liability may be involved and any such claims should be referred direct to the Government of Hong Kong.

It is understood that the Colonial Office have already advised you of the conditions under which grants under the Far Fastern Private Chattels Scheme are made.

These circumstances however, do not apply to you and it is regretted that we are unable to consider a grant.

A. Allison, Esq., 43, Ramsgate Avenue, Bondi, New South Wales, Australia.

Yours faithfully,

L. BISHOP.
